The objective for the students in LA 402: Design Theory & Focus Studio was to redesign Central Park in Guadalupe, California. Although Guadalupe could have the impression of an Old Town romantic, the city is battling to survive in the harsh socioeconomic environment. The formerly prosperous Rancho Guadalupe is now haunted by rows of “For Sale” signs and scenes of dilapidated, abandoned business and residential structures. The City has commissioned the LA 402 Studio for redevelopment of its Central Park as a “need to bring back vibrancy” within the community.
